Primary School Classrooms

miche2

Mustard Seed Project has a school for 125 poor children in classes of 25 in a rented building that was built as apartments. The current building will be big enough for another year but we desperately need to build our own school. The immediate plan is to build a 3 classroom block as the present building is full. In future we shall add other classrooms to complete a Primary School of 12 classes for children from 3 to 14. … [Read more...]

Monday’s wonderful news for the kanga project

IMG_2152

Tetra Laval International SA have chosen the kanga project to be their beneficiary charity this Christmas. Expensive Christmas cards have been replaced by a donation to us and an electronic card bearing a message of support for our sponsorship programme. We can’t thank them enough. So thank you, thank you, thank you. We are really chuffed to get this support (can you tell?) and are keeping our fingers crossed that some of the many people who will get to know about us will perhaps become interested in helping a girl get the education she needs to get herself and her community out of … [Read more...]

A member’s perspective

Essential tips I picked up at the latest T4A event - by Martin Smedley of Act4Africa This Saturday I went to a T4A training meeting together with other small charities working in Africa to learn, share expertise and network together. I am a great believer in networking and in the benefits which can derive from charities working together wherever possible, particularly when working internationally.  I am sure we all know the anecdotal stories of villages where several charities discover they are duplicating efforts. I know from my own experience of African towns that have twinned with … [Read more...]

Coventry meet – a relaxed affair

November training meet

On 26th November some of our members met for an informal day of training and networking and we want to thank Nobby of Gilead Health Development for sorting out a great venue at a fire station in Coventry. As well as enjoying meeting and chatting to members, we were able to meet a couple of new members and we hope that they enjoyed their first look into our "world". The day was relaxed and useful with a couple of highlights.  In particular we were taught the inside out of applying for grants from a slip of a lass with the experience of a well seasoned professional; thank you Amy King for … [Read more...]

Students to raise money for Mustard Seed Project

Dauntsey's School students and Geoff and Rita from Mustard Seed Project

Mustard Seed Project were so excited to learn that the students at Dauntsey's School in Wiltshire have just voted for MSP to be their charity of the year. During the year the students will devise many fundraising activities and all money will be donated to MSP. The 750 students at this co-educational school for 11 - 18 year olds vote each year for the charity they would like to support. They chose Mustard Seed Project because they knew that every penny that they raised would count and make a difference. Each of the twelve houses thinks of their own fundraising idea in addition to whole … [Read more...]

T4A does what it says on the tin.

ronseal-1

In response to a funding tip posted on the charities section of the forum by Rita of Mustard Seed Project, Charles Coleman from African Promise wrote the following. "Thank you so much for this suggestion. Following reading your post back in May I made a call to someone at the XXX  Foundation and subsequently submitted an initial introductory letter. One of the Board Members was then in touch and requested much more detail about our proposal so that he could take up our cause and propose us to his fellow Board Members. I have just this morning received an email from him … [Read more...]

The one we made earlier wasn’t good enough

t4a

This bank holiday week-end while you’ve been enjoying the Royal Wedding or the sunshine, we have been busy creating a new version of our website. Not because we had nothing better to do, but just because we thought you deserved better in ease of use and relevance. That’s how much we care. So what’s new? Well let’s start with the home page. • You can now find charities by country or by the causes they support. • You can watch a film to cut out the boredom. We’ll change it from time to time to keep your interest fresh. • You can discover a project that needs funding and … [Read more...]

Community Hall in Uganda

gilead building

Gilead Health Development are building a large Community Hall at Luwero in Uganda with a view to bringing health education to this poor rural part of Africa. The building will also have a commercial use to add self-sustainability to its purpose. As of April 2011, we have almost completed the roof support structure. The next stage is the corrugated powder coated roof covering at a cost of around £15,000. Although there will still be much to do, this will at least put this eagerly awaiting building into use.  More details on our website. … [Read more...]

Turning s**t into dinners for kids in Tanzania

school with cooking facilities

the kanga project want to install a biogas system to fuel some cookers at a secondary school in rural Tanzania. This eco-friendly system is the only viable way of feeding at least 1 meal to over 1000 pupils who start and finish their study day on an empty stomach. Results: poor concentration, fragile health and academic under achievement. Running a kitchen using wood and charcoal is costly, unhealthy and bad for the environment especially deforestation. The area already suffers from deforestation but has no alternative fuel resources. A biogas system produces gas for cooking using human, … [Read more...]

Village to Village Group

Buriton-Dominase Village-to-Village Group are working to provide households and schools in villages in the far north of Ghana’s Central Region with suitable latrines. Rebuilding a primary school in Kenya

african promise school

African Promise are planning to rebuild a dilapidated primary school in the small village of Kisimenyi in rural Kenya for the benefit of over 550 children now and many hundreds more for generations to come. The school is in a shockingly woeful state. The handful of crumbling, cramped classrooms are wholly unconducive to enjoyable and productive learning; the few toilets are so dangerous that children feel safer, in the words of the headmaster, to "help themselves in the nearby bush"; and the nearest source of water is a 10km walk away. … [Read more...]

Agricultural training centre in Tanzania

V2V_farmers

Village-to-Village have recently built an education centre and have a small demonstration farm. We are now hoping to equip the centre and employ two full-time members of staff to run training sessions not only in agricultural techniques but also in business skills so farmers gain a better understanding of how to sell their surplus produce in local markets. We also plan to keep livestock, namely goats and cattle, alongside the chickens already on site. Subsistence and small-scale agriculture is unstable and highly vulnerable, yet it is a key contributor to the livelihoods of the majority of … [Read more...]
